Tintilla Estate

about tintilla

Tintilla Estate is a family run, 25 acre vineyard in Pokolbin in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine growing area.

Olive trees and woods flank the vineyard with its mosaic of vines planted to match the soils and slopes of the property, creating the unique terroir that produces our distinctive, individual, award winning vines. Our careful attention to the vineyard produces healthy grapes with optimal ripeness and varietal character.

Our low yielding vines produce rich and concentrated fruit with the acidity and tannins that lead to longevity with a softness derived from the Hunter climate.

We grow predominately red wine grapes so the name of the vineyard is approprietely Tintilla. Tintilla is an old world term for red wine; Samuel Pepys used it interchangeably with claret. It is also the name of a grape variety that enhanced the colour of red wine and was planted in Australia in 1826 by the Australian Agricultural Company.
